The by-product resulting from the management of organic
waste could offer optimum uses in fertilizing land intended for maize feed and
soft winter wheat, according to a study carried out by the Basque Institute for
Agricultural Research and Development, Neiker-Tecnalia. As far as mineral
fertilizers are concerned, this fact could mean considerable savings for
farmers. The research has been carried out in collaboration with ONITEK, a
company devoted to technological management and development in energy and
environment matters for the agri-food industry, and has had the support of the
Department for Economic Development and Competitiveness of the Basque Country.
