Fashionable
diseases
July 10,
2012
The reasons
why some diseases are perceived to be more fashionable than others are to be
examined as part of a ground-breaking new research project at Northumbria
University.
Academics
from the School of Arts and Social Sciences will look at how some diseases
throughout history have become fashionable and compare these with modern times.
The
three-year project, which has secured more than £250,000 of funding from the
Leverhulme Trust, will examine literature, medicine and culture from 1660 –
1832 and compare and contrast their findings with the present day.
