A new technology for producing hydrogen

In his PhD thesis defended at the UPV/EHU-University of the Basque Country, Aingeru Remiro has developed a process to obtain hydrogen from bio-oil

The PhD thesis "Producción de hidrógeno mediante reformado con vapor de bio-oil. Integración en el proceso de las etapas térmica, catalítica y de captura de co2" of Aingeru Remiro-Eguskiza, a chemical engineer of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), deals with the quest for a process to produce hydrogen from bio-oil that has a lower impact on the environment than the process using current routes.

The gradual increase in the price of crude oil and the negative environmental consequences that its use entails are putting us on the threshold of a change of energy model that will need to be tackled over the coming decades. Faced with the obvious necessity of finding an energy alternative that will replace fossil fuels in the near future at least partially and in a gradual way, hydrogen is emerging as one of the alternatives.
