Brown University researchers have found large deposits of
glass formed by impactors on the surface of Mars. On Earth, impact glasses have
been shown to sometimes preserve signatures of ancient life. That makes these
deposits potentially interesting places to look for signs of past life on the
Red Planet.
(June 8, 2015) Researchers
from Brown University have used satellite data to detect deposits of glass
within impact craters on Mars. Though formed in the searing heat of a violent
impact, the glasses just might provide a delicate window into the possibility
of past life on the Red Planet.
